Like travel around the world,  but today I will to travel back in time. When I was back in Armenia, when the USSR was just collapsing. I have lot of bright and dark memories about that time. I remember like now how we lived and how everything was. I remember that until 1996 we had no electricity and no water. We were getting one hour electricity per day and during that time building was turning on water pumps and we were gathering water to what ever container possible.

I remember how we were walking for miles in snow to go to my relatives house in winter time, who might have electricity. We were walking in the middle of trolley rails so the snow and ice will not fall from the roof of the building close by. But even with this conditions we were having 🙂 fun,  using my dad’s creativity we used the car battery and plug small light bulbs all over the house and we had power everywhere.

Some times during the winter my grandpa will send some gas from Gyumri where he was working so we can warm our place up. And how my parents will warm up old metal iron and put under our legs so we will be able to fall a sleep.

I remember it was really fun when I celebrated my first birthday party under the candle lights and had my friend from school come by, after that year my friend 🙂 moved to other school. But it was fun birthday party. Every winter and summer break, me and brother were traveling to other city where my grandpa lived. Where had lots of friends there me and my brother, some of friends form that time I still keep in touch. We were small kids but we were really active and fun, we were playing until 1am, and our parents were starting yelling to come back home. After we were back we were sitting and looking to the sky or listening to the radio or counting the stars. Some of my friends will still recall the games we were playing: like hide and sick, kazaki, hala-mula lots of fun games. I remember how my brother was hiding and we were looking him for hours and he was going home to get some sandwich. The place were we lived had river, and there was a pipe over the river, and sometimes we were crossing it using bikes 🙂 the pipe was really tiny and I am not sure how we were doing it. It was really good interesting times. Every beginning and of our vacation we always had small parties where were dancing and signing.  I remember how were taking our bikes to the downtown which was 10-15miles away and we were not getting even tired to bike so far.

you can see the pipe over the river 🙂 that we were using daily. We were always playing with friends on other side, at end of the summer 😛 always visiting the yards of all neighbors and getting big fresh sunflowers, there were really big and sweet. Around the end of august when berries were coming we were collecting and eating berries from the ground

Gyumri was all ruined by earthquake in 1988, but people were looking how to survive and move forward, even living in really bad conditions and with out food or power.

Around end of 1996 the country start stabilizing and food and power start coming to our houses. With new energy we continue going to Gyumri until we got into university, and most of friends left the city or the country. Some are in France some are in Russia 🙂 some are in USA.

I know lots of my friends have there own memories of that times, and everyone who lived in Armenia during that time
